Effective theories: Nuclear calculations from lattice data

Abstract

Quantum Chromodynamics is the fundamental theory of strong interaction. The only available method to extract non perturbative informations from it are lattice calculations. In this framework, multi nucleon systems are extremely difficult to calculate and present calculations are performed in a world with artificially heavy up and down quarks. A Pionless Effective Theory, where the only explicit degrees of freedom are nucleons, can then be used to connect the LQCD data to nuclear structure. I will briefly show how such a theory can be constructed and how it can be used with ab inition methods in nuclear physics to give predictions for the properties of nuclei.
