Qualifications
In September 1996 Alessandro Chiasera received the certificate in computer science at the Istituto Tecnico Industriale “Guglielmo Marconi” withvote of 60/60.
In September 2000 he received the degree in physic from the university of Trento with a final votation of 110/110 e lode. The title of the degree thesis was: “Studio delle proprietà ottiche e spettroscopiche ad 1,5mm in guide d'onda planari SiO2-TiO2 attivate Erbio prodotte per rf-sputtering su substrati silica-on-silicon.” The thesis was develop inside the activities of the research group for the Characterization and the Develop of Materials for Photonic and Optoelectronic, CSMFO group of the CNR-IFN of Trento and the department of physics of the University of Trento with supervisors: Dr. Maurizio Ferrari, Prof. Maurizio Montagna.
In December 2003 he obtain the PhD degree discussing the thesis “Fabrication and characterization of optical planar waveguides activated by erbium ions for 1.5 mm applications.” developed inside the activities of the research group CSMFO of the CNR-IFN of Trento and the department of physics of the University of Trento.

Research experience
From the beginning of the thesis he studies the optical and spectroscopic properties of disordered system with potential application in the field of optic and photonic.
From 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2005 he was titular of a grant on the subject: “Sviluppo dei processi di fabbricazione per rf sputtering e sol-gel dip coating di amplificatori ottici su vetro per diramatori lossless e caratterizzazione delle loro proprietà ottiche, spettroscopiche e strutturali” in the framework of CSMFO group of the CNR-IFN of Trento and the department of physics of the University of Trento.
From the 1st january 2006 to the 31st march 2006 he was titular of a grant at the Centro Studi “Enrico Fermi” in the framework of the CNR-IFAC “Optical microresonators” project.
From the 3rd April 2006 he has been assumed as researcher at the CNR according to the Art. 23 del DPR 171/91 at the CNR-IFN.

The principal research activities are:
  • Fabrication by rf sputtering and characterization of planar waveguides based on SiO2-TiO2, SiO2-HfO2 and SiO2-HfO2 systems activated by erbium and ytterbium ions ;
  • Characterization of SiO2-TiO2 and SiO2-HfO2 planar waveguides activated by erbium ions fabricated by sol-gel route;
  • Characterization of GeO2-TiO2 planar waveguide activated by erbium ions;
  • Study of the spectroscopic properties of silica-alumina bulk glasses activated by erbium and ytterbium ions;
  • Characterization of erbium activated, silver exchanged silicate glasses;
  • Develop of chemical and biochemical sensors in planar waveguides;
  • Spectroscopic characterization of spherical microresonators;
  • Fabrication and study of the optical and spectroscopic properties in confined systems as PBG structures, 1-D photonic crystal doped with rare-earth ions and opals

Didactic experience
In the 2000/2001 he collaborate to the laboratory exercitation in the Physics Experimentation course at the University of Trento, department of Physics.
He has been assistant at the Physics for Telecommunication Engineering course at the University of Trento during the 2001/2002, 2002/2003, 2003/2004, 2004/2005, 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 years.
