Abstract:
At first, we give an exaustive survey on Blank's (and other) method to check whether a normal crossing curve in a compact surface can be realized as the boundary of an immersion of some surface with boundary and to count in how many ways this can be done, up to right equivalence.
This method is then generalized to check whether a curve, with normal crossing and cusps, in a compact surface, can be realized as the apparent contour of some generic mapping and to count in how many ways this can be done, up to right equivalence. Finally criterions are found to check whether a given generic map can be factored through an immersion or an embedding into a line bundle.

Abstract: A technique is developed to find analytic [resp. algebraic] models of the connected sum of compact, analytic [resp. algebraic] hypersurfaces. As an application, we find explicit equations for the connected sum of k copies of the real projective 3spaces in the euclidean 5space.
