Lamb shift in integrated photonics

Abstract

In atomic physics, the coupling of the system with the environment leads to the (dissipative) spontaneous emission of photons from exited states and the (reactive) Lamb shift of the electron energies. Here we propose an analogous photonic system in which an optical resonator (the "atom") is coupled with a waveguide (the "environment") and the resulting effects on the resonator modes are studied.
