Impurity in a 1D bose gas: a Quantum Monte Carlo study

Abstract

Ultracold atomic gases have become an ideal platform to study quantum many body effects as they can be precisely controlled and cooled down to very small temperatures, where quantum mechanics becomes important. Recently, it has become possible to realize strongly interacting one dimensional systems, which strongly differ from systems in higher dimensions and cannot be described by mean field theories. I will present some numerical and analytical results on the problem of an impurity immersed in a 1D bath of bosonic atoms with contact interactions.
