The Augmented Laboratory

Abstract

After a brief presentation of my research group, the Laboratory of Physical Science Communication, I will present my current project: the "Augmented Laboratory". Based on a low-cost hardware and software setup, its main purpose is to create 3D digital reconstructions of experiments regarding motion and watch them on the computer as they are performed or record them for later playback. Through object recognition it allows to perform measurements and analysis of the experiments, computing and displaying data about velocities, accelerations, energies, momentums, center-of-mass of the system, and so on. Using a projector it is also possibile to blend the digital informations into the physical world, thus creating an augmented reality environment for physical science education and didactics.
